DI MEO, ALESSANDRO. – Born at Vulturara on 3 November 1726, died at Nola on 20 March 1786. He entered the Redemptorists, making his profession on 17 January 1749. S. Alfonso sent him to Naples to study Hebrew. From 1752 he taught theology.
A prolific writer, he devoted himself to history, chronology, diplomatics, and theology. His Confutazione della lettera replica di d. Cipriano Aristasio a mgr. de' Liguori deserves mention. It examines what the true sentiments of S. Chiesa are concerning frequent Communion (Naples 1764), against the rigorist excesses of Jansenism; S. Alfonso commissioned him to write it and later used it in his Risposta apologetica circa l'uso della Comunione (there, 1764).
