DIECKMANN, HERMANN. - Jesuit, historian, b. at Osnabrück (northern Germany) on 2 July 1880; d. at Valkenburg (Holland) on 15 Oct. 1928. First professor of letters at S. Leopoldo in Brazil, then from 1915 professor of fundamental theology at Valkenburg.
The fruit of his teaching includes: *Die effektive Mitregentschaft des Tiberius* (in *Klio*, 15 [1918], pp. 339-75); *Antiokien, ein Mittelpunkt urchristlicher Missionstätigkeit* (Aachen 1920); *Die Verfassung der Urkirche* (Berlin 1923); *Die Ecclesia Christi* (2 vols., Freiburg im Br. 1925); *Die revelatio christiana* (ibid. 1930). In cooperation with H. Cladder: *Als die Zeit erfüllt war* (ibid. 1922); *Korinth, die Kirche des hl. Paulus* (ibid. 1923). He also contributed to many ecclesiastical culture periodicals: *Stimmen der Zeit*, *Biblia*, *Scholastik*, *Zeitschrift für kathol. Theologie*, *Biblische Zeitschrift*.
