Dieckmann, Hermann

DIECKMANN, HERMANN. - Jesuit, historian, b. at Osnabrück (northern Germany) on 2 July 1880; d. at Valkenburg (Holland) on 15 Oct. 1928. First a professor of letters at S. Leopoldo del Brasile, then, from 1915, of fundamental theology at Valkenburg.

The fruit of his teaching includes: Die effektive Mitregenschaft des Tiberius (in Klio, 15 [1918], pp. 339-75); Antiokien, ein Mittelpunkt urchristlicher Missionsstätigkeit (Aquagrana 1920); Die Verfassung der Urkirche (Berlin 1923); De Ecclesia Christi (2 vols., Freiburg im Br. 1925); De revelatione christiana (ibid. 1930). In cooperation with H. Cladder: Als die Zeit erfüllt war (ibid. 1922); Korinth, die Kirche des M. Paulus (ibid. 1923). He also contributed to many periodicals of ecclesiastical culture: Stimmen der Zeit, Biblica, Scholastik, Zeitschrift für kathol. Theologie, Biblische Zeitschrift.
