DIECKMANN, HERMANN. — Jesuit and historian, born at Osnabrück (northern Germany) on 2 July 1880; died at Valkenburg (Holland) on 15 October 1928. First professor of classics at S. Leopoldo in Brazil, then, from 1915, professor of fundamental theology at Valkenburg.
The fruits of his teaching are: Die effektive Mitregenschaft des Tiberius (in Klio, 15 [1918], pp. 339–75); Antiokien, ein Mittelpunkt urchristlicher Missionsstätigkeit (Aquagrana 1920); Die Verfassung der Urkirche (Berlin 1923); De Ecclesia Christi (2 vols., Freiburg in Br. 1925); De revelatione christiana (ibid. 1930). In cooperation with H. Cladder: Als die Zeit erfüllt war (ibid. 1922); Korinth, die Kirche des M. Paulus (ibid. 1923). He also contributed to many periodicals devoted to ecclesiastical culture: Stimmen der Zeit, Biblica, Scholastik, Zeitschrift für kathol. Theologie, Biblische Zeitschrift.
