DORIA, TOMASO. - A pious priest and zealous disciple of s. Caterina da Genova. A member of the Fraternity of Divine Love, he was rector of the hospital of Pammatone before Marabotto, and confessor of s. Caterina. He died in 1518 and is buried in the church of the same Hospital, the Most Holy Annunciation of Portoria, where the body of the Saint is preserved.
As a member of the Fraternity of Divine Love, he devoted himself particularly to remedying the scourge of abandoned or unruly children “who constantly remain in the city begging, and then sleep under the embankment, in Banchi, and at bridges and other places, in which they commit many misdeeds against the honour of God and to the shame of the city, and often fall ill and die in those places” (Decree of the Most Serene Republic of 1508 granting the protectors of the hospital authority to gather the said children into the hospital itself). D. was an excellent educator, applying a pedagogy of love.
