DORIA, TOMMASO. - A pious and zealous priest, disciple of St. Catherine of Genoa. A member of the Fraternity of Divine Love, he was rector of the hospital of Pammatone before Marabotto, and confessor of St. Catherine. He died in 1518 and is buried in the church of that same Hospital, the Santissima Annunziata of Portoria, where the body of the Saint is preserved.
As a member of the Fraternity of Divine Love he concerned himself in a particular way with healing the plague of abandoned or wayward children «who stay assiduously about the city begging, and then sleep under the bank, in Banchi, and at the bridges and other places, in which they commit many wicked deeds against the honor of God and to the shame of the city, and many times fall ill and die in those places» (Decree of the Most Serene Republic of 1508 granting to the protectors of the hospital the faculty of gathering those children into the hospital itself). D. was an excellent educator, applying the pedagogy of love.
