DOROTHEO of MITILENE. — Byzantine theologian of the 15th century. He was metropolitan of Mitilene and an advocate of the union of the Greek Church with that of Rome; he took part in the Councils of Ferrara and Florence, striving for this union. He also participated in the delegation that the Council of Florence sent to the Pontiff, and defended the Council’s decisions before the Emperor of Constantinople. He signed the decree of union and remained faithful to it throughout his life.
According to some historians, D. was also the editor of the Storia del Concilio di Firenze, written in Greek.
