DOROTHEUS of MYTILENE. — Byzantine theologian of the 15th century. He was metropolitan of Mytilene, an advocate of the union of the Greek Church with that of Rome; he took part in the Councils of Ferrara and Florence, laboring for the union itself. He also participated in the delegation that the Florentine Council sent to the Pope, and upheld the Council’s decisions before the Emperor of Constantinople. He subscribed to the decree of union and remained faithful to it throughout his life.
According to some historians, D. may also have been the author of the History of the Council of Florence, written in the Greek language.
