DOROTHEOS OF MYTILENE. - Byzantine theologian, of the 15th century. He was metropolitan of Mytilene, a supporter of the union of the Greek Church with that of Rome; he took part in the Councils of Ferrara and of Florence, fighting for the union itself. He also took part in the delegation that the Council of Florence sent to the Pontiff, and upheld the decisions of the Council before the Emperor of Constantinople. He subscribed to the decree of union, and remained faithful to it throughout his life.
According to some historians, D. would also have been the author of the History of the Council of Florence, written in the Greek language.
