DUDON, PAUL. - Jesuit, historian, b. at Sabres (Landes) on 6 February 1859; d. at Toulouse on 23 March 1941. After completing his studies, he was assigned to the periodical Etudes (from 1889 to 1932), where he chose the religious history of modern times as his field of work, orienting himself with particular regard to that of the Society of Jesus. In 1933 he moved, for reasons of health, to Toulouse and there continued his work as a writer.
He composed and published many articles for the principal journals of Catholic culture, besides Etudes; for example, Recherches de science religieuse, Revue d'ascétique et de mystique, Archivum Historicum S. I., etc.; among his other particular works mention should be made of: Le quiétiste espagnol Michel Molinos, 1628-96 (Paris 1921); Le gnostique de st Clement d'Alexandrie, opus. inédit de Fénelon (ibid. 1930); St Ignace de Loyola (ibid. 1934).
