Duval, André

DUVAL, ANDRÉ. - Born at Pontoise in 1564 and died in Paris in 1638. Doctor (1594) and then dean of the Sorbonne, where he was the first holder of the chair of positive theology, established by Henry IV (1597).

He refuted Richer with the work: Elenchus libelli de ecclesiastica et politica potestate (Paris 1612), in a second edition corrected on account of some note of the Roman Inquisition (ibid. 1614). Another work of note: In Item partem Summae D. Thomae commentarii (ibid. 1656).
