PSEUDO-EGESIPPUS. - Under the name of E. there is handed down a very free translation of the Jewish War of Flavius Josephus, written in the 4th century. The name E. is a simple deformation of the name Josephus.

In a group of manuscripts of the 7th-9th century the work has been attributed to St. Ambrose, but this attribution, defended by some, is contested by others. A new edition, not yet complete, has been published by V. Ussani in the CSEL, LXVI.
