PSEUDO-HEGESIPPUS. — Under the name of E. there has been transmitted a very free translation of Flavius Josephus’s Jewish War, written in the 4th century. The name E. is simply a deformation of the name Josephus.
In a group of manuscripts from the 7th–9th centuries, the work was attributed to s. Ambrogio, but this attribution, defended by some, is disputed by others. A new edition, not yet complete, was published by V. Ussani in CSEL, LXVI.
