HEGESIPPUS. Pseudo. — Under the name of H. there survives a very free translation of **De Bello Judaico** by Flavius Josephus, written in the 4th century. The name H. is simply a deformation of the name **Josephus**.
In a group of manuscripts from the 8th–9th century the work was attributed to St Ambrose, but this attribution, defended by some, is contested by others. A new edition, not yet complete, has been published by V. Ussani in the CSEL, LXVI.
