EYB, ALBRECHT von. – German writer, born near Ansbach on 24 August 1420 and died at Eichstätt on 24 July 1475. After studying at the University of Padua, he subsequently became a canon at Bamberg, archdeacon at Würzburg, and chamberlain to Pius II.
His works demonstrate a direct knowledge of Italian humanism. The Spiegel der Sitten (Mirror of Morals) consists for the most part of translations from the Fathers of the Church and from ancient Latin authors into Italian. More original is the work on the advisability of marriage (Ob einem Manne sey zenemen ein eelich Weib oder nit), in which various quotations alternate with lively and delicate tales such as « Der Huge Procurator » (The Cunning Procurator) and a reworking of the legend of Gregory on the rock.
