EYB, ALBRECHT von. — German writer, born near Ansbach on 24 Aug. 1420 and died at Eichstätt on 24 July 1475. After studying at the University of Padua he became successively canon at Bamberg, preacher at Würzburg, and chamberlain to Pius II.
His works show a direct acquaintance with Italian humanism. The Spiegel der Sitten (Mirror of Morals) consists largely of translations from the Fathers of the Church and from ancient Italian Latin authors. More original is his work on the propriety of marriage (Ob einem Mannes sey seinem ein eelich Weiß oder mit), where various quotations alternate with lively and delicate tales such as “Der kluge Procurator” (The Cunning Procurator) and a reworking of the legend of Gregory on the rock.
