FAUSTINO and GIOVITA, saints, martyrs. — The information concerning them is scarce and uncertain. They are certainly commemorated in the Hieronymian Martyrology on 16 February. A church in honour of F. alone is mentioned at Brescia by St. Gregory the Great (Dialogues, IV, 52: PL 77, 413), beside which, in 841, Bishop Rampertus built a monastery.
The Passio, however, composed at the beginning of the ninth century, is highly legendary (BHL, 2836-38).
