DAUGHTERS OF SAINT ANNE. - Institute founded in Piacenza in 1866 by Rosa Gattorno (b. in Genoa in 1831, d. in Rome in 1900), a woman of great virtue who, after her husband's death, devoted herself entirely to works of charity. The purpose of the foundation is the education of orphans, the care of the sick and the elderly, and schools for poor children. The Institute was approved by the Holy See in 1892, and today counts about 8,000 religious in over 400 houses, many of which are in mission territories.
