FLORINO. - Gnostic contemporary of Polycarp, a companion of St. Irenaeus's youth (v. Irenaeus, in Eusebius, Hist. eccl., V, 20, 5), at first an official at the imperial court, later, according to Agapius (PO 7, 516), a presbyter at Rome.

It was on his account that St. Irenaeus wrote a letter De monarchia seu de mala and another letter De Ogdoade, when F. had adhered to Valentinianism. His doctrines, as they have been set out by Agapius (ibid.) with far too little precision, cannot be fitted into any of the known Gnostic systems.
