FRANCESCO «BONAË SPEI». – In the world Francesco Crespin, a Carmelite theologian, so named after the convent «Bonaë Espérance» (near Valenciennes) to which he belonged. Born in Lilla on 20 June 1617, he died in Brussels on 5 January 1677. He taught philosophy and theology at the University of Louvain, was twice superior of the Fiandro-Belgica province, and several times prior and definitor.
His most important works are: Commentarii tres in universam Aristotelis philosophiam (Brussels 1652); Commentarii in universam theologiam scholasticam (6 vols., Antwerp 1662); Noctua Belgica adversus Aquilam Germanicum (Louvain 1651); Lucta z. Thomae (Brussels 1664).
