FREDOLI, BERENGARIO (Berengarius, Fredoli, Freduli, de Frasolis). – French canonist, born in the castle of Vienna ca. 1250, died at Avignon (511 June 1323); he was chaplain domini Popae (editor of Rota), doctor decretorum, professor in Paris, bishop of Bézières (1294), and cardinal (1305).
He was one of the compilers of Boniface VIII’s Liber Sextus (v. CANONICI). He wrote a treatise De excommunicazione et interdito between 1298 and 1303, while he was governing the bishopric of Bézières and after the Liber VI had been promulgated.
