FREDOLI, Berengarius (Berengarius, Fredoli, Freduli, de Frasolis). - French canonist, born in the castle of Vienne around 1250, died in Avignon in June 1323. He was chaplain of the Lord Pope (auditor of the Rota), doctor decretorum, professor at Paris, bishop of Béziers (1294), and cardinal (1305).
He was one of the compilers of Boniface VIII’s Liber Sextus (v. CORPUS IURIS CANONICI). He wrote a treatise De excommunicatione et interdicto between 1298 and 1303, while he was bishop of Béziers and after the Liber Sextus had been promulgated.
