GALVANUS DE BETTINO, DI BOLOGNA

GALVANUS DE BETTINO, of Bologna. - Canonist of the 14th century.

There is little information about his life: from 1365 to 1368 he taught at Padua; he was then summoned by Bishop William to Pecs in Hungary to lend distinction to the Studium of canon law established there; by 1374 he was already at Bologna as professor of the Decretals, called there by Gregory XI. He died certainly after 1385.

He wrote: De differentiis legum et canonum; Casus, qui indicis arbitrio relinquuntur; Contrarietates glossarum iuris canonici; Repetitiones; De declinis. These works are for the most part unpublished.
