Giorgi of Nicomedia

GIORGIO di NICOMEDIA. — He lived in the second half of the ninth century. As archivist of S. Sofia and an intimate friend of the patriarch Fozio, he was appointed by the latter metropolitan of Nicomedia in 860. He remained faithful to Fozio, even at the time of his disgrace.

G. was more a rhetorician than a theologian. Manuscript codices have preserved 170 homilies by him, of which only 10, all concerning the Madonna, have been published: first by I. Marracci, and later in PG 100, 1336–1528.
