**GIOVANNI CANZIO (Cantius), Saint.** — Born at Kęty, in the diocese of Cracow, on 23 June 1390 (according to others, 27 Dec. 1389) and died at Cracow on 24 Dec. 1473, where he was buried in the church of St Anne.
Of ascetic temperament and a keen student of Holy Scripture, he relinquished the responsibility of the parish of Olkusz, preferring to teach Holy Scripture at the Academy of Cracow. For a short time he was tutor to the sons of King Casimir IV and contributed to the education of the Prince St Casimir. He made a pilgrimage once to Jerusalem and four times, on foot, to Rome. Clement XIII canonized him in 1767. Feast day: 20 Oct.
