JOHN CANTIUS (Canti), Saint. - Born at Kęty, in the diocese of Kraków, on 23 June 1390 (according to others on 27 Dec. 1389) and died at Kraków on 24 Dec. 1473, where he was buried in the church of St. Anne.

An ascetic temperament and a strong student of the Holy Scriptures, he gave up the responsibility of the parish of Olkusz, preferring to teach the Holy Scriptures at the Academy of Kraków. For a short time he was tutor to the sons of King Casimir IV and contributed to the education of the prince St. Casimir. He went on pilgrimage once to Jerusalem and four times, on foot, to Rome. Clement XIII proclaimed him a saint in 1767. Feast day 20 Oct.
