GIOVANNI CANZIO (Cantius), saint. - B. at Kęty, in the diocese of Cracovia, on 23 June 1390 (according to others, 27 Dec. 1389), and d. at Cracovia on 24 Dec. 1473, where he was buried in the church of S. Anna.
Ascetic in temperament and a diligent student of Holy Scripture, he relinquished responsibility for the parish of Olkusz, preferring the teaching of Holy Scripture at the Academy of Cracovia. For a short time he was tutor to the sons of King Casimiro IV and contributed to the education of Prince St. Casimiro. He went on pilgrimage once to Jerusalem and four times, on foot, to Rome. Clemente XIII proclaimed him a saint in 1767. Feast: 20 Oct.
