JOHN OF THE ANNUNCIATION (LLANES-CAMPOMANES). - Discalced Carmelite theologian, b. 3 Nov. 1633 in Oviedo (Asturias) and d. 4 Aug. 1701 in Salamanca. He was professor and rector of the famous Colegio Salmanticense, several times definitor general and prior general of the Congregation of Spain (1694-1700).

It is to his credit that he put into briefer and more precise form the Cursus philosophicus Complutensis, which De Wulf called an encyclopedic commentary on Thomism. He also continued the famous Cursus Theologicus Salmanticensis, which Fr. Antonio de la Madre de Dios (d. 1637) had left unfinished after the fourth volume. His other works are: Promptuario del Carmen (Madrid 1698-99); Carta pastoral a los Religiosos Descalzos (ibid. 1695); Carta pastoral para las monjas Carmelitas (ibid. 1699).
