DE WULF, MAURICE. - Distinguished historian of medieval philosophy, b. at Poperinge in Belgium on 6 April 1867 and d. there on 23 December 1947.

From as early as 1894 he was one of Mercier's most active collaborators, both in the editing of the Revue néoscolastique de philosophie and in teaching at the Institut supérieur de philosophie in Louvain. To him is owed the great collection of medieval texts Les philosophes belges (1901 onwards) and a vast scholarly output aimed especially at discovering and illustrating the monuments of medieval thought of his homeland. De Wulf's name remains linked to his Histoire de la philosophie médiévale (6th ed., Louvain-Paris 1934-36; 2nd Italian trans. Milan-Florence 1944-

1948), enriched by a 3rd volume (1947) that embraces the 14th-15th centuries and reaches to the threshold of Humanism.
