GIOVANNI (MARCOLINI) OF FANO. — Franciscan of the first half of the 15th century. Intimate friend of Sts. John of Capistrano and James of the Marches as well as of the supreme pontiffs Eugenius IV and Nicholas V. To him is owed the foundation of the Franciscan convent of the Spedale of St. Lazarus in Fano.
On 6 Nov. 1444 Eugenius IV created him bishop of Nocera Umbra, where in 1448 he rebuilt the ancient cathedral, transferring thither from the church of St. Mary Major the pontifical cathedra and the Chapter. As bishop he founded the Franciscan convent of the Hermit near the Baths. He was present at the death of St. Bernardino of Siena (1444).
He died in a reputation for sanctity in 1465.
