GIOVANNI (MARCOLINI) DA FANO

JOHN (MARCOLINI) OF FANO. - Franciscan of the first half of the 15th century. A close friend of Sts. John of Capistrano and James of the March as well as of the supreme pontiffs Eugene IV and Nicholas V. The foundation of the Franciscan convent of the spedaletto of St. Lazarus at Fano is owed to him.

On Nov. 6, 1444, Eugene IV created him bishop of Nocera Umbra, where in 1448 he rebuilt the ancient Cathedral, transferring the cathedra there from the church of St. Mary Major pontifical cathedra and the Chapter. As bishop he founded the Franciscan convent of the Eremita near the Bagni. He was present at the death of St. Bernardine of Siena (1444).

He died in the reputation of sanctity in 1465.
