Daiferio, Giovanni

GIOVANNI, DAIFERIO

DAIFERIO, GIOVANNI. - Cardinal, flourished in the first half of the 12th century. Born of a noble family in Salerno, and created cardinal deacon of the title of St. Nicholas in Carcere Tulliano by Callixtus II in 1120.

He took part in the election of Honorius II, at whose death (13 Feb. 1130) he is found among the schismatic cardinals who elected the antipope Anacletus II (Pierleoni). The latter transferred him to the presbyteral title of St. Pudentiana. Having returned to the unity of the Church, Innocent II, by bulls of 1133 and 1134, restored him to his original title, only to give him once again in March 1134 that of St. Pudentiana, which he probably held until the following year.
