JOHN OF DUKLA, Blessed. - Franciscan, b. at Dukla (Poland) in 1414, d. at Lviv in 1484.

Still young, he entered the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, becoming a priest and several times superior. When in 1453 St. John of Capistrano went to Poland, he passed to the Observance. He applied himself with zeal to the apostolic ministry, especially to bringing the Russian and Armenian schismatics back to the Church. Kings and princes of Poland requested his canonization from Paul V and Urban VIII. Clement XII approved his cult, and confirmed the decree of the Sacred Congregation of Rites by which he chose G. among the primary patrons of Poland and Lithuania.
