JEROME OF SAON. - Spanish mystical theologian and preacher of the 17th century, b. at Mota in the province of Cuenca, d. in 1629. On 14 Oct. 1573 he professed among the Augustinians of Valencia, and at the end of 1585 or the beginning of '86 he obtained the degree of master in theology; he then taught at the University of Barcelona. He was superior in various convents of his Order. In 1599 he passed into the Congregation of the Discalced Augustinians, for whom he zealously advocated and founded many houses.

Works: Hyperarchia celestial y terrena y símbolo de los nueve estados de la Iglesia militante con los nueve choros de Ángeles de la triumphante (Barcelona 1598, Cuenca 1603); Discursos predicables literales y morales de la Sagrada Scriptura (Barcelona 1598).
