GIROLAMO da SIENA. – Augustinian ascetic and mystic of the 14th century, born in Siena ca. 1330, died in Arezzo ca. 1420. From the earliest years of his priesthood, he devoted himself ardently and fruitfully to preaching and to the spiritual direction of laypeople and religious. He was esteemed by s. Caterina da Siena and by b. Giovanni Colombini, who often sought his advice and commended themselves to his prayers. His writings are cited by the Crusca as linguistic texts.
