JEROME OF SIENA. - Augustinian ascetic and mystic of the 14th century, b. at Siena ca. 1330, d. at Arezzo ca. 1420. From the earliest years of his priesthood he devoted himself with ardor and with fruit to preaching and to the spiritual direction of laypeople and religious. He was esteemed by St. Catherine of Siena and by the blessed Giovanni Colombini, who often sought his counsel and commended themselves to his prayers. His writings are cited by the Accademia della Crusca as texts of the language.
