GIUSTINIANI, ALESSANDRO. — Cardinal, born 3 Feb. 1778 at Genoa, died there 11 Oct. 1843. Vice-legate of Bologna and of Ferrara, after the conclusion of the Concordat of 1818 with the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies he became a member of the executive commission for the enforcement of that Concordat. He remained in Naples even during the revolution of 1820–21 and in that circumstance displayed considerable diplomatic skill. Preconized titular archbishop of Petra in 1822 and appointed nuncio to Naples, he was transferred to Lisbon in 1826, and was created cardinal with the title of S. Croce in Gerusalemme on 2 July 1832.
