GUALTIERO of BRUGES. - Franciscan, died in 1307. He was Provincial of France and Bishop of Poitiers (1279-1306).
He taught in Paris around 1267-69; he is the author of a Commentary on the Sentences (c. 1261-65; excerpted edition by E. Longpré, in Arch. d'hist. doctr. et littér. du moyen âge, 8 [1933]), and of Quaestiones disputatae (E. Longpré, Louvain 1928).
He is a faithful disciple of St. Bonaventure, whose doctrines he follows on illumination, the innateness of the knowledge of God, and the hylemorphic composition of spiritual substances.
