GUALTIERO di BRUGES. – Franciscan, born in 1225, died in 1307. He was provincial of France and bishop of Poitiers (1279–1306).
He taught in Paris around 1267–69; he is the author of a Commento alle Sentenze (ca. 1261–65; edition of extracts by E. Longpré, in Arch. d'hist. doctr. et littér. du moyen âge, 8 [1933]), and of Quaestiones disputatae (E. Longpré, Louvain 1928).
He was a faithful disciple of St Bonaventure, whom he followed in the doctrines of illumination, the innateness of the knowledge of God, and the hylemorphic composition of spiritual substances.
