GUAMÀ. – Prelature nullius in the State of Pará in Brazil.

It has an area of 63,000 sq. km and 150,000 inhabitants, of whom 127,000 are Catholics; it has 7 parishes, 4 male and 2 female religious communities (1949).

The prelature was created on 14 April 1928 under the name of Gurupy, with its residence in the city of Ourem; by decree of the Holy Consistorial Congregation of 3 February 1934, 3 other parishes were added to the prelature through their detachment from the archdiocese of Belem do Pará, the see of the prelature was transferred to the city of Bragança, and the church of Maria S.ma del Rosario was elevated to prelatic dignity; the prelature itself was given the name of G.
