GUASTI, CESARE. — Writer, born in Prato on 4 September 1822, died in Florence on 12 February 1889. Having completed his humanistic studies at Prato as an external student of the Cicognini College directed by Giuseppe Silvestri, whose friend and biographer he was, he devoted himself to his father’s printing business and, while still very young, published works on philology, including the Trattato contro l'avversità della fortuna by Arrigo Settimello (1841). In 1850 he was summoned to Florence as archivist of the Opera del Duomo; four years later, to the superintendency of the State Archives
