WILLIAM OF MELITONE. - Fourth Franciscan master of theology at Paris. He succeeded Odo Rigaldi in the chair in 1248. He was later master at Cambridge and in 1256 was entrusted by Alexander IV with completing the Summa of Alexander of Hales, but death (1257) overtook him before he could finish this work.
His writings (Commentaries on Scripture and Quaestiones de Sacramentis) remain unpublished, except for a Tractatus super Missam (ed. W. Lampen, Quaracchi 1931).
