RIGAUD (Rigaldus), EUDES (Odo). - Franciscan theologian and Archbishop of Rouen, born at Brie-Compte-Robert or Courquetain (Île-de-France), died at Rouen on 2 July 1275. He was HALLEL (v.), bachelor around 1240–45, and regent master of the Franciscan School in Paris (1245–48).
He collaborated on the Expositio regulae quatuor Magistrorum (1242), wrote a commentary on the first three books of the Sentences of Lombardus (the fourth attributed to him is spurious), a good number of Quaestiones disputatae, and several sermons. His theological works, still unpublished, are of great importance and exerted notable influence. From 1248 to 1275 he governed the archdiocese of Rouen with wisdom and pastoral zeal. He was a friend and advisor to St. Louis, King of France, and accompanied him even to Tunis during the Crusade of 1270. In 1274 he took part in the Second Council of Lyon. His diary, namely the Regestum visitationum (ed. Th. Bonnin, Rouen 1852), besides being a testimony to his manifold activities, also reflects the spiritual life of the period and is therefore of great historical value.
