HAJJŪGH, JĒRUDHĀH BEN DĀWĪDH. - Jewish grammarian of the 10th century, considered the first expositor of Hebrew grammar. Very little is known of his life (even the name has been handed down in different forms), spent in Spain at Cordova.
Four works by H. survive, written in Arabic, on Hebrew grammar. Among them the two concerning the study of the Hebrew verb stand out, on which he was the first to formulate the theory of triliteralism. He had great influence especially through 'Abhrāhām ibn 'Ezrā' (v. IBN 'EZRĀ' ABRAHĀM BEN MĒ'ĪB).
