HUAJUÁPAM de LEÓN, DIOCESI di. — Diocese and city in the State of Oaxaca, Mexico.
It has an area of 22,000 sq. km., with a population of 300,000, of whom 299,950 are Catholics. It has 40 parishes served by 75 diocesan priests; 1 seminary and 2 women’s religious communities (1948).
The diocese was created by Pope Leo XIII with the bull Sedes Apostolica of 25 April 1902 under the name of Mixtecas. A decree of the Congregation of the Council dated 13 November 1903 changed the name to that of the residential see, H. de L. The first bishop was Msgr. Rafael Amador. It is suffragan to Angelopoli.
