HUANCAVELICA, DIOCESE of. – City and diocese of Peru, erected on 18 December 1944 by Pope Pius XII through the apostolic constitution Quae ad maius, by detaching part of the diocese of Ayacucho.
It is a suffragan diocese of Lima; the Cathedral is dedicated to s. Antonio of Padua. It extends over 21,496 sq. km, with a population of 295,000 inhabitants, all Catholics. It has 164 parishes, 25 diocesan priests, and a seminary (1949).
