HUANCAVELICA, DIOCESE OF. - A city and diocese of Peru, created on 18 Dec. 1944 by Pope Pius XII with the apostolic constitution Quae ad maius, by separating a part of the diocese of Ayacucho.
It is a suffragan of Lima; the cathedral is dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua. It extends over 21,496 sq. km., with a population of 295,000 inhabitants, all Catholic. It has 164 parishes, 25 diocesan priests, and one seminary (1949).
