HUANCAYO, DIOCESE of. – City and diocese of Peru, erected by Pope Pius XII on 18 December 1944 by the apostolic constitution Supremum apostolatus munus, through the division of the diocese of Huanuco. The diocese is suffragan to Lima. It has an area of 18,000 sq km and 380,000 inhabitants, all Catholics, distributed among 31 parishes served by 32 diocesan priests and 41 religious priests; it has one seminary, 6 male and 5 female religious communities (1949). The Cathedral is dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity.
