IDA OF LEUVEN, Blessed. - Flemish mystic, lived in the 13th century, died perhaps on April 13, 1300 or 1290. Of a noble family, even as a child she was favored with ecstasies and visions. At the age of 18 she gave herself to a life of rigorous penance. Most devoted to the passion of Christ, she had the gift of the stigmata and of other mystical sufferings. She already shone for her charity, for her Eucharistic piety and for the gift of miracles when she entered the Cistercian monastery of Rosendaal (Valley of Roses [Brabant]), where she continued to receive extraordinary graces, ecstasies, visions and contemplations.
