Insanguine, Giacomo

INSANGUINE, GIACOMO. - Musician, called Monopoli after the city of the same name in Apulia where he was born around 1740; he died in 1795 in Naples.

An opera composer of the Neapolitan school, he composed 21 operas, both comic and serious. He studied with Cotumacci at the Conservatory of S. Onofrio in Naples, where he became second choirmaster. His career, however, unfolded mainly at the Tesoro di S. Gennaro, where, in 1774, he was elected organist of the second choir, in 1776 organist of the first choir, and finally in 1781 maestro di cappella, succeeding Fago in that post. He composed much sacred music: masses, hymns, psalms, among which Psalm 71 for three voices, choir and orchestra excels.
