Jassy (Jasi), Diocese of. – A city and diocese in Romania. It covers 45,000 sq km and has a population of 400,000, of whom 140,000 are Catholics. In 1949, these were distributed across 109 parishes served by 46 diocesan priests and 52 regular clergy (Annuario Pontificio 1951, p. 223).
The diocese was established by Leo XIII on 27 June 1884, erecting the Apostolic Vicariate of Moldavia as a residential see at Jassy.
