KONINGS, ANTON. - Moral theologian of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer; born at Helmond in Holland on 24 Aug. 1821, he entered the Congregation in 1842, where he professed in 1845. He taught moral theology and was provincial in Holland. Then, in 1870, he was sent to teach moral theology and canon law at Ilchester (Maryland, USA), where he died on 30 June 1884.
His Theologia moralis s. Alphensi in compendium redacta (New York 1874; 6th ed. ibid. 1886) is a brilliant compendium of the doctrine of St. Alfonso, with useful applications for the territory in which he wrote (USA). The other work, Commentarium in facultates apostolicas ad usum ven. cleri americani (Ilchester 1893, the 3rd ed. of which was prepared by his confrere J. Putzer), was likewise very useful to the American clergy. The pamphlet De absolutione parentibus qui prolem scholis publicis seu promiscuis instituendam tradunt neganda necne (Boston 1874) benefited the cause of parish schools in America.
