KONINGS, ANTON. - Moral theologian of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer; b. at Helmond in Holland on 24 Aug. 1821, entered the Congregation in 1842, and professed in 1845. He taught moral theology and served as provincial in Holland. In 1870 he was sent to teach moral theology and canon law at Ilchester (Maryland, USA), where he died on 30 June 1884.
His *Theologia moralis s. Alphonsi in compendium redacta* (New York 1874; 6th ed. ibid. 1886) is a brilliant compendium of the doctrine of St. Alphonsus with useful applications for the territory in which he wrote (USA). The other work, *Commentarium in facultates apostolicas ad usum ven. cleri americani* (Ilchester 1893, of which the 3rd ed. was edited by his confrere J. Putzer), proved very useful to the American clergy. He also contributed to the cause of parochial schools in America with the pamphlet: *De absolutione parentibus qui prolem scholis publicis seu promiscuis instituendam tradunt neganda necne* (Boston 1874).
