LANCELLOTTI, GIOVANNI PAOLO. - Canon lawyer, b. in Perugia in 1522, d. there on 23 Sept. 1590.

At the request of Pope Paolo IV, he prepared over fifteen years a systematic institutional treatise on canon law, following the model of Justinian’s Institutiones, divided into four books: De personis, De rebus, De iudiciis civilibus, De iudiciis criminalibus. Since, however, he did not obtain pontifical approval because of certain theories that displeased the specially appointed commission, he published the work at his own expense, privately, in 1563.
