LANCELLOTTI, GIOVANNI PAOLO. - Canonist, b. in Perugia in 1522, d. there on 23 Sept. 1590.

At the request of Pope Paul IV he prepared over fifteen years a systematic institutional treatise on canon law, on the model of Justinian's Institutiones, divided into four books: De personis, De rebus, De iudiciis civilibus, De iudiciis criminalibus. However, since he had not obtained pontifical approval for certain theories that did not please the specially delegated commission, he published the work at his own expense, privately, in 1563.

Works: Institutionum iuris canonici commentarium (Perugia 1560); Institutiones iuris canonici, already cited (4 vols., ibid. 1563; Venice 1564); De comparatione iuris pontificii et caesarei (Lyons 1574); Regularum ex universo pontificio iure libri III (Perugia 1587).
