LANCELLOTTI, FILIPPO. - Cardinal, b. in Roma on 17 Aug. 1732, d. there on 13 July 1794. Having entered the prelature, he was appointed by Benedetto XIV apostolic protonotary and canon of S. Pietro in Vaticano.
Pio VI, after calling him to serve on the tribunal of the Rota as auditor (1779), made him (1787) his majordomo and created him cardinal deacon in the Consistory of 21 Feb. 1794. Overtaken by death after scarcely five months, he was not assigned a deaconry. He zealously cultivated poetry and became prince of the Accademia degli Infecendi, which met in his palace on via dei Coronari, holding each year—until 1776, the year of the death of Princess donna Ginevra, L.'s mother—two solemn sessions, on Passion Sunday and on the feast of the Assumption of the Madonna.
