LANCETLOTTI, FILIPPO. - Cardinal, born in Rome on 17 Aug. 1732, died there on 13 July 1794. Entering the prelature, he was appointed by Benedict XIV an Apostolic protonotary and canon of St Peter’s in the Vatican.
Pius VI, after calling him to serve on the tribunal of the Rota as auditor (1779), wished him (1787) to be his majordomo and created him, in the Consistory of 21 Feb. 1794, cardinal-deacon. Taken by death barely five months later, he did not receive assignment to a deaconry. He cultivated poetry with zeal and became prince of the Accademia degli Infondati, which met in his palace in via dei Coronari, holding two solemn sessions each year—until 1776, the year of the death of Princess Donna Ginevra, his mother—on Passion Sunday and on the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin.
