LANCELLOTTI, FILIPPO. - Cardinal b. in Rome on 17 Aug. 1732, d. there on 13 July 1794. Having entered the prelature, he was appointed by Benedict XIV apostolic protonotary and canon of St. Peter's in the Vatican.
Pius VI, after having called him to be a member of the tribunal of the Rota as auditor (1779), wanted him (1787) as his majordomo and created him, in the Consistory of 21 Feb. 1794, cardinal deacon. Surprised by death after barely five months, he received no assignment of a deaconry. He cultivated poetry with dedication and became prince of the Accademia degli Infecendi, which met in his palace on via dei Coronari, giving each year — until 1776, the date of the death of Princess donna Ginevra, the L.'s mother — two solemn sessions, on Passion Sunday and on the feast of the Assumption of the Madonna.
