LINGAYEN, DIOCESE of. — City and diocese in the Philippine Islands, suffragan of Manila.
It extends over 9,567 sq. km. and has 1,263,456 inhabitants, of whom 931,428 are Catholics; it has 88 churches with 75 parishes, served by 65 diocesan priests and 34 religious priests; 3 male and 6 female religious houses; 16 male and 6 female educational institutions (Ann. Pont., 1951, p. 248).
The diocese was created by the bull Cunctarum omnium Ecclesiarum of Pius XI on 19 May 1928, through the partition of the dioceses of Manila and Nueva Segovia. The episcopal residence is in Calasiao, province of Pangasinan.
