LINGAYEN, Diocese of. - A city and diocese in the Philippine Islands, suffragan of Manila.
It covers 9,567 sq. km. and has 1,263,456 inhabitants, of whom 931,428 are Catholics; it has 88 churches with 75 parishes, served by 65 diocesan priests and 34 regulars; 3 male and 6 female religious houses; 16 male and 6 female educational institutes (Ann. Pont., 1951, p. 248).
The diocese was erected by the bull *Cunctarum omnium Ecclesiarum* of Pius XI on 19 May 1928, by separation from the dioceses of Manila and Nueva Segovia. The episcopal see is at Calasiao, in the province of Pangasinan.
