LUKE OF ARMENTO, St. — Also called of Demenna (Sicily), his birthplace, and erroneously of Tauriano. A Basilian monk who lived in the 10th century, he moved from Sicily to Calabria near Melicucchè around 960 to escape the Muslim invasion. From there he went to Lucania; he lived for a few years in the monastery of St. Julian and then moved to Carbone, where he founded the abbey of SS. Elias and Anastasius, and died on 13 October 993.
