LUDOVICO da VICENZA. — Franciscan preacher, of the noble Volpe family, born in Vicenza in the first decades of the 15th century, died ca. 21 April 1507.
He belonged to the Observance and was a disciple of s. Bernardino da Siena; in 1455 he was appointed by Calliato III apostolic preacher for the Crusade against the Turks, and in 1461 he became vicar general of the Observance. At the request of the Chapter held at Ferrara in 1481, he wrote an official biography of s. Bernardino, reduced by the Chapter of 1484 to liturgical lessons for the Franciscan Breviary: it is the first of the Vite of s. Bernardino in Acta SS. Maii, V, Antwerp 1685, pp. 262–72.
