LUPI, ANTONIO MARIA. - Jesuit, b. in Firenze on 14 July 1695, d. in Palermo on 3 Nov. 1737. Most learned in theology, philosophy, Church history, literature, mathematics, civil and military architecture.
Marangoni (v.) BOLLANDISTI (v.), he collected copies of many Christian inscriptions from cemeteries and churches, preserved in cod. Lat. 9143 and in mss. 507, 532, and 2661 of the Biblioteca nazionale Vittorio Emanuele. His principal work is: Dissertatio et animadoerismes ad nuper invenium Severae martyris epitaphium (Palermo 1743). This is not, however, the inscription of a martyr, but of an ordinary female believer who died in the year 269, whose tomb was discovered on the Via Salaria in 1730; the inscription is now preserved in the Museo cristiano Lateranense.
