LUPI, ANTONIO MARIA. - Jesuit, born in Florence on 14 July 1695, died in Palermo on 3 November 1737. Most erudite in theology, philosophy, Church history, literature, mathematics, and civil and military architecture.

In contact with Marangoni (v.) and Boldetti (v.), he collected copies of many Christian cemetery and church inscriptions preserved in cod. Lat. 9143 and in mss. 507, 532 and 2661 of the Biblioteca Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele. His principal work is: Dissertatio et animadoerismes ad nuper invenium Severae martyris epitaphium (Palermo 1743). It does not, however, concern the inscription of a martyr, but of a simple faithful woman who died in the year 269, whose tomb was discovered on the Via Salaria in 1730; the inscription is now preserved in the Museo Cristiano Lateranense.
