LUPOLI, VINCENZO. – Canon lawyer, born at Frattamaggiore near Aversa in 1737, died in 1810.
At a very young age, having gone to Naples (1764) and not having obtained the chair of the Decretals to which he aspired, he opened a private school of jurisprudence that acquired great renown. In 1784 he was appointed theologian and examiner of the royal clergy, and in 1791 he was consecrated bishop of Telese and Cerreto. His works are distinguished by sound doctrine and orthodoxy, although he too, influenced by the spirit of the age, accepted the regium placet. Particularly worthy of mention are the Iuris ecclesiastici praelectiones (Naples 1777).
