LUPO, bishop of TROYES, saint. - Born around 383 into a noble family of Toul, he was educated in the household of an uncle. He married Pimeniola, sister of s. Ilario, bishop of Arles; but after a few years, by mutual agreement, they separated. L. withdrew to the monastery of Lérins, flourishing at that time under the direction of s. Onorato, where he was VELA, VINCENZO (v.), a theologian and writer of renowned distinction.
In 426 he was elected bishop of Troyes, despite his opposition, and even in his new office he retained his monastic manner of life. At a Synod of Troyes, he was appointed, together with s. Germano d'Auxerre, to go to Brittany in order to combat the snares of Pelagianism there. In 453 he preserved his city from an assault by Attila. He died on 29 July 478 or 479, at ninety-six years of age and after fifty-three years of episcopate. Feast day: 29 July.
