MADERNO, ALESSANDRO – Barnabite theologian, born in Capolago (Como) on 15 May 1617, died in Rome on 6 April 1685. He taught theology for many years in the Arcimboldi schools of Milan, then in Lodi and Rome.
Appointed provincial of Lombardy in 1659, he moved to Rome as assistant general in 1655; he was later elected superior general in 1680. He also served as consultor of the Holy Office.
He published a Cursus theologicus (3 vols., Rome 1671-1675), in which he expounded all the treatises following the order of St. Thomas’s Summa Theologica.
