MARIANO da FIRENZE. - Franciscan, theologian, and historian, b. in Firenze, probably in 1477, d. there, at the Ospedale del Ceppo while caring for the sick, on 20 July 1523.
He wrote on asceticism and mysticism, but above all on the history of the Franciscan Order. Among his works the following should be noted: Fasciculus Chronicorum, his principal work in 5 books, for the history of the Order from its origins to about 1500, used by L. Wadding but now unavailable; Compendium chronicorum Fratrum Minorum (published in Arch. Franc. hist., 1-4 [1908-11]); Historia quomodo habitus b. Francisci de Monte Acuto Florentium translatus est (1503; Italian version by R. Razzoli, in La chiesa di Ognissanti in Firenze [Firenze 1898]); Brevis chronica provinciae Tusciae (1515-1516); Itinerarium urbis Romae (1518; published by Fr. Enrico Bulletti, Roma 1931); Dialogo del S. Monte della Verna (1522; published by Fr. Ciro Cannarozzi, Pistoia 1930).
