CARVAJAL, Luís. – Franciscan theologian, born in Andalusia around 1500, probably at Jodar, where he died in August 1552. Sent by Paul III to the Council of Trent, he took part in many important discussions and helped to exclude the Virgin from the inheritance of original guilt (Sess. V, can. 6).
He wrote: Apologia monasticae religionis diluens nugas Erasmi (Salamanca 1528), and, in reply, Dulcoratio amarulentiarum erasmicae responsionis ad apologium fratris Ludovici (Paris 1530); Declamatio expostulatoria pro Immaculata Conceptione (Seville 1553 and Paris 1541); De restituta Theologia liber (Cologne 1545 and Antwerp 1548 under the title: Theologicarum sententiarum liber unus); and a discourse delivered at the Council of Trent on 6 March 1547 (Antwerp 1548).
