MARTINO de FUGERIIS. - Theologian of the 13th century, of whom it is known only that he was known as magister Martinus (the Paris manuscript Nat. lat. 3116 adds de Fugeriis), as can be deduced from the manuscripts that contain his unpublished Summa (codd. Cambridge, Paris, Toulouse, Troyes).
His presence in Paris in the early years of the 13th century is probable, given the doctrinal connections of his writings with the works of Peter the Chanter, Prevostin and Stephen Langton. This is also deduced from his citations of this master Geoffrey of Poitiers. In method and doctrine he approaches Peter of Poitiers (d. 1205). His writings prove to be scarcely original, being almost compilations or extracts from the Summa of Simon of Tournai, the Glossae super sententias (ca. 1152-60) and the Sententiae Udonis (ca. 1160-65). He himself in the prologue of the Summa complains that his opponents reproached him: «Me aliorum scrinina ausu compilasse clandestino atque nefanda epigrammatis munitione, quod ab aliis, retroactis temporibus diligenti scrutinio curaque sollerii est elaboratum, a me pervicaciter fuisse presumptum».
